
Everblades' Surma named Player of the Week

ESTERO, FL â Florida Everblades center Damain Surma was named the In Glas Co ECHL Player of the Week for the week of Dec. 20-26, it was announced by the league today.
Surma earned the weekly award for the second time this season by compiling six points (2g, 4a) in two games last week. The 23-year-old native of Lincoln Park, Michigan began the week with a goal and two assists on Dec. 21 at Pensacola. Surma's two assists came in regulation, and his goal was the game-winner coming 43 seconds into overtime to help Florida defeat Pensacola 3-2. The next night, the former sixth round draft pick by the Carolina Hurricanes in 1999 also tallied a goal and two assists in a 6-4 loss to the Pensacola Ice Pilots at Germain Arena in Estero, FL.
Surma enters this week second on the Everblades in scoring with 13 goals and 13 assists. In addition, he is second on the team in plus-minus with a plus-15 rating, and is tied for the team lead with four power play goals. The 5'9" centerman ranks tied for 11th in the league with his 26 points and is tied for fourth in the ECHL with his plus-15 rating. Surma, who made his NHL debut with the Carolina Hurricanes in 2002-03, previously won the weekly award for the week of Oct. 25-31. He also received the ECHL's Player of the Month award for October when he notched 12 points in five games, and was a plus-9. Surma and Brent McDonald have now received the Player of the Week award for the Everblades this year.
