Augusta Lynx News Release

A back and forth game saw each team score one goal per period, but the overtime decision went to the Greenville Grrrowl as they defeated the Augusta Lynx 4-3 on Tuesday night in South Carolina.

Jamie Johnson's speed put Augusta on the board first at 14:04 when he took a pass at center at full stride, breaking in around the Grrrowl defense and roofing the puck over top of Grrrowl goaltender Mike Morrison to make it 1-0 from Treavor Peterson and Sean Connolly. Greenville would respond, however, with a goal from Brock Radunske to tie the game at 1-1 and round out the first period scoring.

The second stanza would almost provide a carbon copy of the scoring in the first. Matt Dzieduszycki's unassisted shorthanded goal pushed Augusta back into the lead at 14:03, but again the Grrrowl came back for a goal at 15:47 from Radunske and forge a 2-2 tie.

Turning the tables in the third period, Greenville scored first when Richard Pitirri notched his seventh goal of the year at 8:26, a power play marker to give the Grrrowl their first lead of the night. Augusta would press late, and finally convert when Colt King redirected a Matt Schmidt feed at 17:13 to tie the game at 3-3, with Lawne Snyder collecting the other helper. No further scoring in regulation gave way to overtime, where Jason Metcalfe scored off a draw win from Carl Mallette at 3:51 to give the Grrrowl two points and send the Lynx home with just one. Matus Kostur stopped 36 shots in the loss, while Morrison turned aside 27 Lynx attempts for the win.

The Lynx will next play at home on Thursday night against the South Carolina Stingrays. Game time is 7:05 pm, and it's Scooby Doo night! Tickets are $10, $13, and $14, with discounts for seniors, students, military personnel, and Comcast cable subscribers. Call (706) 724-4ICE for more information or to order your seats today!
