December 28, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL)
Florida Everblades News Release
PENSACOLA, FL â The Florida Everblades (16-12-1) won their sixth straight road game with a 3-1 victory over the Pensacola Ice Pilots (16-6-3) at the Pensacola Civic Center. Florida exploded for three goals in a five-minute span in the first period to help set the tone, and goalie Rob Zepp stopped 49 of 50 shots faced to help the âBlades to the win.
Brent McDonald, Chris Lee and Kris Vernarsky all scored in a 5:12 span midway through the opening period, forcing Pensacola to lift starting goaltender Frederic Cloutier after the third goal at 15:29 for back-up goalie Todd Ford. Zepp proved strong in the opening period for Florida turning away 17 Pensacola shots.
After a scoreless second period, which saw Pensacola out-shoot the Everblades 19-12, the Ice Pilots closed to within two goals when Aaron Phillips beat Zepp over the glove at 9:10 of the final period. That was as close as Pensacola would get, with Zepp turning away a flurry of shots late in the third period to help preserve the victory and bring Florida's record to 2-2-1 vs. Pensacola this season.
Zepp earned the win in goal by turning away a season-high 49 shots to bring his overall record to 6-7-0. Cloutier suffered the loss in goal for Pensacola, allowing the three Florida goals on 11 shots faced, bringing his record to 9-6-3. Ford came in off the bench and stopped all 23 shots he faced. Florida finished the night 0-for-6 on the power play, while the Ice Pilots finished 0-for-5 on the man advantage.
The Everblades return to Germain Arena on Friday night to take on the Charlotte Checkers at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available for Friday night, and fans can call (239) 948-7825 for more information.
