Maine Mariners News Release
PORTLAND, ME - Goaltender Brandon Halverson has been recalled to the Hartford Wolf Pack, the team announced on Monday. The 22-year-old net-minder has played 31 career games with the Wolf Pack, but earns his first AHL opportunity of 2018-19 with the call up.
Halverson is having a fantastic season in Maine, ranking in the ECHL's top five in wins, save percentage, and saves. He currently holds a 2.74 goals-against average and a .923 SV%, on pace for career highs in both categories. He picked up his 13th win on Saturday night with 37 saves on 38 shots in a 3-1 victory over Brampton at home. Halverson has been a workhorse, appearing in 23 of the team's 33 games - 22 starts.
Halverson played regularly for the Wolf Pack two seasons ago when he appeared in 26 games for Hartford, with a 9-16-0 record, a 3.45 GAA and a .887 SV%. Last season, Halverson played primarily in the ECHL with Greenville (24 games), but also played 5 games in Hartford and made his NHL debut for the Rangers on February 17th, 2018 in relief. He faced six shots, stopping five.
Halverson was a second round draft pick of the Rangers in 2014 (59th overall) and signed an entry-level deal with New York in July of 2015.
The Mariners are on an eight-day Canada trip that is taking them to Newfoundland on Tuesday and Wednesday and Brampton on Saturday and Sunday. They will return home on Wednesday, January 16th to host Newfoundland at 7:00 PM. It's Special Olympics night.
