Charbonneau Named to ECHL All-Star Classic Roster
January 7, 2019 - ECHL (ECHL)
South Carolina Stingrays News Release
NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. - The ECHL on Monday announced the roster of players for the 2019 CCM/ECHL All-Star Classic, which includes South Carolina Stingrays forward Jonathan Charbonneau. The game will be hosted by the Toledo Walleye at the Huntington Center in Toledo, Ohio on Monday, Jan. 21 at 7 p.m. and will air live on NHL Network.
Charbonneau, a rookie, is second on the Stingrays in scoring with 31 points on nine goals and 22 assists in 35 games. The St-Columbam, Que. is fourth in scoring among all ECHL rookies and is also fourth in assists and shots (102) among first-year skaters. His 13 power play points are also third among league rookies.
The 5-foot-7, 180-pound forward joined the Rays late in the 2017-18 season after finishing his college career at Mercyhurst University and appeared in nine regular season contests as well as four playoff games. He immediately stepped into a big role offensively, scoring nine points on five goals and four assists, including four power play goals.
Charbonneau suited up for 33 games during his senior season with the Lakers last year and scored a career-high 29 points on 17 goals and 12 assists. He played in 145 games during a 4-year NCAA career, posting 102 points on 56 goals and 46 assists along with a +10 rating.
For the second consecutive year, the CCM/ECHL All-Star Classic will feature a 3-on-3 tournament with four teams competing for the top spot. New in 2019, the host team will make up two of the four teams and face-off against the other two teams made up of All-Star players from the Eastern and Western Conference. These four teams will compete in a 3-on-3 tournament with rally scoring in order to crown a winner.
The 2019 CCM/ECHL All-Star Skills Competition will take place in between rounds of the tournament, highlighting the talents of the ECHL Players, and showcasing the future of hockey as they develop in the League.
The rosters for the Eastern Conference and Western Conference All-Stars were determined by a vote of coaches, team captains, media relations directors, broadcasters and members of the media.
There have been 67 players from the ECHL All-Star Game that have gone on to play in the National Hockey League, including 51 since 2002 when the lineups began having players who coaches felt were prospects to move up to a higher level.
South Carolina is back in action at the North Charleston Coliseum Friday night to face the Atlanta Gladiators on Wizarding World Night at 7:05 p.m. Tickets are on sale now!
