A LOOK AT LAST WEEK (1-1-0-0)

Wednesday vs. Manitoba Win 5-2
Saturday vs. Manitoba Loss 3-1

The Grizzlies split yet another two-game series at home. After a slow start Wednesday, the Utah Grizzlies put together three goals in the second period to gain the lead and ultimately a solid victory over the Manitoba Moose.

The Grizzlies and Moose both had trouble getting their offensive games off the ground during a first period, a period that saw only thirteen combined shots. The Moose were first to find the net with a shot by Rene Vydareny that slipped by Jason Bacashihua at the 17:27 mark. Bacashihua finished the game with 19 saves.

Utah responded to their 1-0 deficit with three straight second period scores. Jarrod Skalde scored his fourth goal of the season on the powerplay after 1:34 had elapsed. Justin Cox was next to find the net at the 5:47 mark when he went in one-on-one against Moose netminder Alex Auld and slung a shot through his skates. Rob Valicevic netted his seventh point of the season at 13:14 of the second period. The Moose managed to cut Utah's lead to one just before the end of the second period with an unassisted effort by Jimmy Roy with fifty seconds remaining. However, Utah only needed until 1:04 into the third period to score again. It was David Gove who took advantage of the powerplay registering his third goal of the year. Gove finished the game with a goal and two assists. David Bararuk added Utah's final goal on an empty net with 48 seconds remaining in the game.

The Utah Grizzlies fell victim to a vengeful Manitoba Moose squad with a 3-1 decision at the ‘E' Center Saturday. The Grizzlies met the Moose again on Saturday. Utah allowed two second period goals and never recovered as the Moose went on to collect their fourth victory of the season.

Manitoba goaltender Alex Auld had 25 saves in the winning effort. After the game opened with 25 scoreless minutes of play, the Moose were first to put up points beginning with a shot by Brandon Reid at 5:54 of the second period. Moose winger Justin Morrison was next to sneak one by Jason Bacashihua on the powerplay at the 13:52 mark. Bacashihua finished the game with 27 saves. The Grizzlies' scoring drought finally ended at 3:36 of the third period when Brett Draney scored his first goal of the season. However, the Grizzlies were unable to score again, the final goal of the game coming off the stick of Manitoba's Ryan Ready into an empty net with 37 seconds remaining.
