Dayton Bombers News Release
The Dayton Bombers suffered a pair of closely contested, one-goal losses to the Peoria Rivermen this past weekend in ECHL- America's Premier AA Hockey League action. They will venture on the road this week, continuing to take on teams inside their division, the Northern, before engaging in their first non-divisional game of the season on Sunday vs. Roanoke (Southern Division). Below is a review of the Saturday and Sunday competitions:
11/15/03- BOMBERS 3 @ Peoria 4
Jason Deskins continued his torrid pace with a first period goal at the eight-minute mark, but the Peoria Rivermen edged the Dayton Bombers 4-3 at Carver Arena in Peoria, Illinois Saturday night. Alex Kim, Bret DeCecco, Trevor Read, and Brendon Brooks scored for Peoria, which never trailed in the contest. Deskins scored after Peoria scored two goals in a :32 mark early to go up 2-0. He broke in on the wing, took a slap shot that was stopped by goalie Levente Szuper, then persevered to put his own rebound into the net. Deskins' goal was his eighth in eight Bombers' games and in his fifth straight game. Janne Jokila and Martin Paquet also scored for the Bombers, while goalie Andrew Penner made 29 saves in defeat.
11/16/03- Peoria 2 @ BOMBERS 1
The Dayton Bombers outshot Peoria at the E.J. Nutter Center Sunday afternoon, but could not come up with enough goals in losing, 2-1. The Bombers took 32 shots (18 in the second period), getting one past Peoria goalie Daniel Boisclair when Martin Paquet scored his second goal of the season on a pass from Olivier Proulx 13 seconds into the third period. Boisclair held the Bombers in check the rest of the night with 31 saves. Peoria got on the scoreboard in each of the first two periods, both times on the power play. Tyler Rennette scored first for the Rivermen off a rebound, with assists from Joe Vandermeer and Brendan Brooks 6:54 into the game. Randy Rowe put the second goal in at the 2:53 mark of the second period from Scott Crawford and Alex Kim.
