Grizzlies Assigned Antti Miettinen

WEST VALLEY CITY, UTAH - The Utah Grizzlies National Hockey League affiliate, the Dallas Stars, announced today that they have assigned center Antti Miettinen and that they have re-called right wing Rob Valicevic and left wing Steve Gainey. The moves come with the Stars mired in a six game winless streak (0-5-1) and sitting with a 7-9-2 record overall.

Miettinen, 23, was named the 2002-03 Finnish Elite Player of the Year after appearing in 53 games and recording 50 points (25-25 -50) with HPK Hameenlinna. In 12 games with the Stars this season, the Hameenlinna, Finland native has scored one goal and carries a -7 rating. The 5-11, 180-pound center was originally drafted by Dallas in the seventh round of the 2000 NHL Entry Draft.

Valicevic, 32, was signed by the Stars during the off-season (8/28/03) and has played in 14 games for the Grizzlies tying for second on the club with seven points (2-5 -7). He also has 14 penalty minutes and is carrying a +1 rating. The Detroit native has played in 187 career NHL games posting 48 points (20-28 -48) while seeing time with Nashville, Los Angeles and Anaheim.

Gainey, 24, has played in 12 games with the Grizzlies this season notching three goals and an assist with nine penalty minutes. The Montreal native has played in six career NHL games (all with Dallas) registering an assist and seven penalty minutes.

The Stars also announced they have traded defenseman Stephane Robidas and a draft pick to the Chicago Black Hawks in exchange for defenseman Jon Klemm and a draft pick.

Utah is off until Thursday when they host the Worcester IceCats at the 'E' Center. Face-off is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
