Grizzlies Score Four Straight to Beat Bakersfield 4-1

West Valley City Utah - The Utah Grizzlies (17-9-3-1) defeated the Bakersfield Condors 4-1 Wednesday night at Maverik Center.

Utah closed out the contest with four-straight goals and Andrew Engelage stopped 23 of 24 Bakersfield shotsin the game to improve to 9-3-2-1.

"I thought it was one of our better games this year, no question," said Grizzlies Head Coach Kevin Colley. "I was very happy with the effort tonight and the execution. Everyone was emotionally in it and it was a great game. It was a good game to come back home here and show we can score some power-play goals with five-on-five goals and the guys did a great job."

Utah outshot Bakersfield 17-6 in the first period and 40-24 in the game, but fell behind 1-0 4:55 into the contest. The Grizzlies then tied the game with 2:19 left in the frame. Tim Crowder scored his 10th goal of the year as he stole the puck from Bakersfield goaltender Josh Tordjman in the circle; as he came outto play the puck. Crowder then snuck behind Tordjman and buried the puck into an open net.

Utah built a 3-1 second intermission lead as they scored on back-to-back power-plays 6:54 apart. Tom May (2) scored from the side of the net just 27 seconds into Utah's second power-play of the game at 2:28. Matt Sorteberg (2) then made it 3-1 as Utah scored just 25 seconds into that special teams situation.

Brent Gauvreau's (one goal, one assist) third goal of the year 11:27 into the third period made it 4-1 as he pushed through the circle and buried the score. Linemates Kevin Deeth (two assists) and Tom May (one goal, one assist) each earned multiple-point games on the play.

Utah continues the home stand Friday at 6:05 p.m. and Saturday at 7:05 p.m. with Victoria.
