Gladiators Win Second Straight; Beats Wheeling 5-2

DULUTH, GA - The Gwinnett Gladiators picked up their second consecutive win against the Wheeling Nailers, 5-2 Wednesday night at the Arena at Gwinnett Center.

Ben Street opened the scoring on the power play in the first to make it 1-0 Nailers (16-13-1) at 2:25.

Gladiators (14-14-5) forward Tom Zanoski scored his first tally of the year in his first game back in Gwinnett with an assist to Dan Kissel and Aaron Bendickson. Zanoski returned to the Gladiators from the Lake Erie Monsters (AHL) after racking up 47 points in 42 games in Gwinnett last season. He would also add two assists on the night after arriving in Gwinnett just hours earlier.

With only five seconds left in the first the Nailers took the one goal lead with a power play tally from Nick Petersen, his 13th of the year to make it 2-1. Peterson now has a goal in five games in a row.

The only goal in the second period came with only 30 seconds left when Drew Paris fired a shot over the glove of Nailers goalie Mike Brown for his first goal of the season. The score remained tied at two at the end of two.

The Gladiators added three goals in the third period with the first one coming just 46 seconds in. Bendickson earned his seventh goal of the year, sneaking one under the arm of Brown and into the net to push the Gladiators ahead 3-2.

Defenseman Paul Flache increased the Glads lead to two capping a tick-tac-toe setup from Mike Forney and Pat Galivan at the 3:07 mark on the power play.

At the 9:16 mark Zanoski earned his second goal of the night with Kissel and Bendisckon as his helpers once again to cap a 5-2 win. Bendickson finished the night with one goal and three assists.

Gwinnett skates at home on New Years Eve against the Wheeling Nailers at 6:05 pm. The first 2,000 kids 12 and younger receive a free Sillybandz, and Grammy nominated rock band DecembeRadio will perform for the fans after the game.

The Gladiators are the AA affiliate of the Atlanta Thrashers and play all home games at the 11,355-seat Arena at Gwinnett Center, located just off I-85 on Sugarloaf Parkway in Duluth.
