Kalamazoo Wings News Release

Toledo, OH- Over the past two seasons, games featuring the Kalamazoo Wings and Toledo Walleye have been high scoring, Wednesday night would be no different, as the K-Wings tied a season-high for goals in a game to defeat the Walleye 7-4.

There was plenty of offense in the first period, including an opening tally from a player that the K-Wings didn't think would be in the lineup. Earlier in the afternoon, Trent Daavettila attended to a family emergency and didn't arrive to the Huntington Center until 10 minutes before face-off. On his first shift of the night, Daavettila redirected a Ryan McGinnis blast to get Kalamazoo the lead 1:35 into the contest.

Kalamazoo tacked on to the lead less than two minutes later, when Kory Karlander extended his scoring streak to six games on an assist to Patrick Asselin (10th).

After Andy Bohmbach cut into the K-Wings lead with his team-leading 12th goal of the season, the K-Wings responded with a power-play marker from Justin Taylor (10th)

Trying to bring his team back, Zack Torquato earned his team-leading 23rd point of the season with his sixth goal of the campaign 15:54 into the period to trim the K-Wings lead to 3-2.

Karlander concluded a three-point period, with his third assist of the night this time his wrister was tipped by Taylor (9th) for the rookies second of the night.

Looking to spark their team, the Walleye pulled Thomas McCollum after the first period in favor of Joe Palmer. McCollum allowed four goals on 11 shots.

Former K-Wing, Dominic Osman (3rd) scored on a wrister from the slot 5:12 into the second period to once again bring the Walleye back to within one goal; however, the K-Wings responded moments later with a power-play goal from Andrew Fournier (13th).

Attempting one last comeback bid, Bohmbach (13th) notched his second of the game with 3:39 remaining in regulation.

Putting the game away in the final two minutes, Kalamazoo tacked on two empty-net goals from McGinnis (4th) and Karlander (14th) to skate away with the three goal victory.

Karlander's empty-netter was also a shorthander, which gives the K-Wings six shorthanded goals on the season and their league-leading fifth on the road. The tally also extended Karlander's goal streak to a K-Wings season-high tying four games.

Kalamazoo's Riley Gill (6-4-0-0) turned aside 38 shots to earn the victory, while Palmer (3-7-0-0) received the loss in the relief effort stopping 17 of the 18 shots he faced.

Kalamazoo will return to Wings Stadium this Friday, December 31st for a 7:30 p.m. face-off versus the Elmira Jackals during the 9th Annual New Year's Eve Bash Presented by Cool 101 and WMMT News Channel 3.
