Elmira Jackals News Release

Trenton, N.J. - Despite 39 saves from goaltender Daren Machesney, the Elmira Jackals (14-9-5-0) dropped a 3-1 decision to the Trenton Devils (12-13-0-2) on Wednesday night at the Sun National Bank Center.

Corey Cowick scored the first goal of his career at 16:34 of the first period. Josh Brittain fired a shot in on Devils netminder Dave Caruso to start the scoring chance, with Cowick sending in the rebound to put the Jackals up 1-0. Eric Regan had the second assist on the goal.

Dan Charleston scored on a wraparound from behind the net after taking a loose puck in the crease from Machesney to tie the game, 1-1, at the 19-minute mark of the first.

Brad Miller's wrist shot on a five-on-three power play from Ryan Ginand and Ryan Hayes snuck by the stick of Machesney to put Trenton in front for good, 2-1, at 14:01 of the second period.

With Machesney pulled for an extra attacker, Jeremy Akeson tapped in the puck to an empty net to seal the game at 19:13 of the third period, 3-1.

Machesney received the game's second star while falling to 1-3 with Elmira. Caruso improved to 4-5-0-2 this season with an 18-save performance.

The Jackals head to Kalamazoo to take on the K-Wings on Friday and Saturday with both games starting at 7:30 p.m.
