Alaska Beats Idaho 3-2 for Fifth Straight Win
December 29, 2010 - ECHL (ECHL)
Alaska Aces News Release
The Alaska Aces ran their season-high winning streak to five games, and held the Idaho Steelheads to a season-low, 10 shots on goal in a 3-2 win on Tuesday night from Sullivan Arena. The Aces picked up right where they left off before a week and a half holiday break and improved to 16-9-1 on the year and 5-1 in the first half of their current home stand. The Aces will return on Wednesday to continue a busy week of action in a rematch with Idaho. They then host Ontario on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. All games begin at 7:15pm, and tickets are on sale now. For more information, please call the Aces at 907.258.ACES or visit them online at www.alaskaaces.com.
The Aces blew out of the gates when Jerad Stewart started the scoring 70 seconds into the game. The Steelheads answered on a power play when Matt Tassone scored from the right circle at 10:14 to tie the score. The Aces reclaimed the lead on a power play of their own when Kory Falite banged home a rebound at 14:09 to make it 2-1. The Aces dominated play from the onset, and held a 32-8 shots advantage through two periods, but the score remained 2-1.
Alaska added to their lead it in the third period. Garry Nunn scored on an odd-man rush into the zone 2:11 into the final period to give the Aces some breathing room at 3-1. It proved much needed because the Idaho power play struck again when John Swanson scored at 5:43. But that's as close as the Steelheads would come, and Alaska did not allow another Idaho shot for the final 14 minutes of the game. Wes Goldie had a chance to extend the lead on a penalty shot at 12:26, but could not convert, and the Aces held on for the 3-2 win.
Gerald Coleman (12-7-1) made 8 saves on 10 shots for his fifth straight win. Jase Weslosky (2-3) suffered the loss, making 40 saves on 43 shots. The Aces power play went 1-2, while the Steelheads went 2-5. The Aces outshot the Steelheads 43-10 in the game.
Join the Aces this week for three more games on Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday night at 7:15pm. Make sure you're there on New Year's Day, when fans can get $1 hot dogs at the game. For more information, please call the Aces at 907.258.ACES or visit them online at www.alaskaaces.com.
