Nailers Solid Effort Falls Short

DULUTH, GA ‚¬"the Gwinnett Gladiators scored three third period goals to defeat the Wheeling Nailers 5-2 at The Arena at Gwinnett Center Wednesday night.

Wheeling got on the board first on the power play. Ben Street fired a hard wrist shot past Gwinnett goaltender Edward Pasquale, to give the Nailers the early 1-0 lead. Newcomer Tom Zanoski tied the game at one at 13:47 of the period. The Nailers grabbed the lead back with just four seconds remaining in the period, as Nick Petersen buried his 13th goal of the season off a rebound, giving Wheeling the 2-1 lead at the end of the first.

Drew Paris scored the lone goal in the second on a wrist shot which beat Nailers Goaltender Mike Brown, tying the game at two after 40 minutes played.

In the third, the Gladiators convertedon three Nailers turnovers, receiving goals from Aaron Bendickson, Paul Flasche, and Zanoski, to take a 5-2 lead. Pasquale stopped all nine of Wheeling's shots in the third to secure the 5-2 victory. Zanoski finished with four points in his Gladiators debut. Wheeling outshot Gwinnett 37-31 in the contest.
