Utah Grizzlies News Release

West Valley City, Utah- Alex Kim scored 1:27 into overtime as the San Diego Gulls defeated the Utah Grizzlies, 2-1, on Monday night.

The first period was a tight one, with Utah taking 7 shots and San Diego putting 8 on net, but Justin Eddy for the Grizzlies, and Tyler Weiman for the Gulls held on to keep the score deadlocked at 0-0. Each team had two power plays in the period.

Utah opened things up at 5:13, as Matt Craig scored a power play goal, his 16th of the season, assisted by Garett Cameron and Barret Ehgoetz. But the Gulls tied it up with just under six minutes remaining on a power play goal of their own, this one by Patrick Levesque, with assists going to Alex Kim and Pierre-Luc Sleigher.

After only mustering five shots in the second period, the Grizzlies erupted for 13 chances in the third, but Weiman stopped them all. The Gulls we unable to put any pucks past Eddy either, and the game went to overtime, still locked at 1-1.

It remained that way until 1:27 of the extra frame, when Alex Kim and Jesse Bennefield muscled their way into the Utah zone and Kim beat Eddy for the winning goal, his seventh of the season. Utah fell to 13-8-2 with the loss, and San Diego improved to 10-8-4.

The Grizzlies play again on Friday, December 16, in Idaho, versus the Steelheads. Game time is 7:10 p.m.
