San Diego Gulls News Release

SAN DIEGO -- After ending the longest homestand of the season with a loss to Phoenix, the San Diego Gulls bounced back in Utah to move back above .500. The Gulls went 1-1-0 last week with Alex Kim leading the way with 4 points (2g, 2a).

WEEK IN REVIEW:

Dec. 9 vs. Phoenix: Cory Pecker's power-play goal with 3:51 left in the third period broke a 2-2 tie and proved to be the difference maker, as the Phoenix Roadrunners edged the San Diego Gulls Friday night at the ipayOne Center. Mike Ouellet was the first to dent the scoreboard, 2:07 into the opening frame, putting his own rebound behind San Diego netminder Tyler Weiman. Jason Deskins gave the Roadrunners a two-goal cushion less than two minutes later, cashing in on another rebound. San Diego finally got on the board 5:05 into the second period on a Kim power-play goal. Chet Ferreira tied it up with 43 seconds left in the second period and the game remained tied until Pecker notched his power-play goal at the 16:09 mark of the third period to seal the victory.

Dec. 10 @ Utah: Kim scored a goal and added two assists, while the Gulls killed nine Utah power plays en route to San Diego's 4-3 victory over the Grizzlies Saturday night at The E-Center. It was the first-ever match-up between the two clubs. Grady Moore chipped in with two assists and Jesse Bennefield, newcomer Patrick Levesque and Pierre-Luc Sleigher also scored for the Gulls. Bennefield and Levesque scored back-to-back goals in the first period, leading San Diego to a quick 2-0 lead and the Gulls held on behind the solid play of netminder Weiman, who finished with 32 saves and upped his record to 3-7-2.

Individual Notes: Kim has 11 points (6g, 5a) since joining the Gulls eight games ago... Richard Keyes has assists in six of the last seven games and has 11 points (3g, 8a) in that span... Steve Hildenbrand has 17 points (5g, 12a) in his last 11 games...

Team Notes: San Diego has lost only three times in regulation since Nov. 2 (7-3-4)... The Gulls are 3-1-1 in their last five road games... They have scored a power-play goal in 12 of their last 15 games... They have allowed a power-play goal in six of their last eight games, including two short-handers...
