Victoria received their first player from a National Hockey League franchise, when the Vancouver Canucks sent Goaltender Rob McVicar to the Salmon Kings on Tuesday afternoon. McVicar arrived in Boise in time to start on Wednesday, a game which both teams checked closely through the first two periods. Idaho Forward Justin Cox opened the scoring early in the first period, and Victoria Defenseman Nate Forster responded in the second to tie the game at one. Forward Scott Burt gave the Steelheads a 2-1 lead early in the third period, which shook the Salmon Kings offense awake. Forward Dustan Heintz tied the game quickly, followed by Lanny Gare's game winner. Adam Taylor iced the game with an empty netter to round out the score at 4-2, in favour of Victoria. The Salmon Kings finished 1-3 on the powerplay while shutting the ECHL's best powerplay unit out four times. McVicar recorded his first win of the season while Idaho Goaltender Steve Silverthorn took the loss in front of 3747 fans in attendance.
Friday December 9, 2005 - @ Idaho - 5-1W
The Salmon Kings continued to roll on Friday and they rolled right over the Steelheads, beating Idaho 5-1. With Goaltender Rob McVicar recalled to the Vancouver Canucks, David Currie was given the nod in a game the Steelheads started quickly. Greg Hornby scored less than half a minute into the game, and that was the last time the 4301 fans at Qwest Arena had anything to cheer about. The Salmon Kings scored five unanswered goals by Jade Galbraith, Adam Taylor, Mike Wirll, Mike Josephson and KC Timmons, in the Salmon Kings most one-sided win of the season. Victoria capitalized on three of their four opportunities with the man advantage while shutting the Steelheads down on all six chances they had on the powerplay. Currie's record moves to 3-2 with the win, while Steelheads Goaltender Matt Yeats was beaten five times on 13 shots in his third loss of the season.
