Gladiators Weekly Update

February 5, 2007 - ECHL (ECHL)
Atlanta Gladiators News Release

Setting Records: Brad Schell tied a season high as he collected 4 assists for the Gladiators in Saturday's 6-2 win over Alaska. With 4 assists in the game, Schell now has 88 points on the year. He set a new Gladiators team record for most points in a season surpassing Jeff Campbell's record of 83 set last year while he tied the all time team record for most point in a season as he is currently tied for the top spot with Jason Elders. Elders collected 88 points while with the Mobile Mysticks during the 1999-2000 season.

The 1-2 Punch! Brad Schell's 4 assists in addition to Scott Mifsud's goal and two assists in Saturday's 6-2 win over Alaska helped keep Schell and Mifsud 1-2 in scoring in the ECHL. The pair has combined to post over 150 points on the season as Schell has collected 88 points while Mifsud has recorded 67 points for Gwinnett. Mike Pandolfo of Trenton ranks third with 62 points on the season, 5 back of Mifsud.

Looking for 30! Colton Fretter posted a pair of goals for the Gladiators in Saturday's 6-2 win over the Alaska Aces. It was Fretter's 28th and 29th goals of the season and the rookie needs just one more marker to become the 5th player in team history to record 30 goals in a season. Fretter would join Kevin Doell (33), Mike Vigilante (30), Jeff Campbell (30 & 33) and Guillaume Desbiens (33) to post 30 or more goals in a season.

A true Advantage: The Gladiators posted three power play goals in Saturday's 6-2 win over Alaska as Gwinnett continues to lead the ECHL on the power play this season converting over 25% of their chances on the man advantage. Gwinnett has collected 87 power play goals this season. Gwinnett needs just 28 power play goals to tie the ECHL record for power play goals in a season. The Nashville Knights hold the current ECHL record for most power play goals in a season with 115 set during the 1995-96 season. To set a new ECHL record for power play goals in a season, the Gladiators need to average 1.04 power play goals per game over their final 27 games of the regular season.

In overtime? The Alaska Aces defeated the Gladiators in overtime on the Your Best Rate Financial Home Ice at the Arena at Gwinnett Center on Tuesday night by a 5-4 score. The overtime loss at home for the Gladiators was Gwinnett's first loss in overtime at home in over two seasons. The Charlotte Checkers were the last team to defeat the Gladiators in overtime in Gwinnett. Charlotte posted a 4-3 overtime win on November 19th of 2004.
