Reading Royals News Release

Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings of the National Hockey League and the Manchester Monarchs of the American Hockey League, today announced that the team has acquired forward Brett Smith from the Phoenix RoadRunners of the ECHL in return for future considerations. Smith (5'8"/175 lbs.) (25), a third year pro from Guelph, Ontario, scored sixteen goals and assisted on thirteen others in thirty-eight games with Phoenix this season. Smith, who played his collegiate hockey at Ferris State University, holds the longest goal scoring streak in the ECHL this season, as he racked up at least one goal in nine consecutive games for the Roadrunners (10 goals) from November 25 through December 16, 2006. Last season, Smith put up career numbers (30g - 33a = 63pts) for the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs, who went all the way to the Central Hockey League's playoff championship finals before being knocked off by the President's Cup Champion Laredo Bucks.

The Royals have a full week off before returning to action next Sunday when Reading takes on the Johnstown Chiefs at the Cambria County War Memorial Arena in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. Royals' game night broadcasts can be heard live on ESPN Radio 1240 am (and on the internet through the Royals' website, www.royalshockey.com), beginning thirty minutes before the opening face-off. Streaming video is also available for $6.00 per game through the B2 Networks, which can be accessed through the Royals' website.
