Bombers Rookie Earns Honor

Dayton, OH- The Dayton Bombers of the ECHL today received word from their "AAA" affiliate the Syracuse Crunch that the American Hockey League has named Crunch goaltender Dan LaCosta CCM Vector/AHL Player of the Week for the week ending February 4, 2007.

On Friday night, the rookie LaCosta stopped 22 shots in a 5-0 win over the Springfield Falcons to earn his first career professional shutout. He was back in net on Saturday and again shut down the opposition, this time recording 31 saves as Syracuse blanked North Division-leading Rochester, 6-0. LaCosta's personal shutout streak now stands at 155 minutes and 32 seconds.

In recognition of his achievement, LaCosta will be presented with an etched crystal award prior to an upcoming Crunch home game.

A third-round pick by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, LaCosta is 3-2-1 with a 2.29 goals-against average and a .912 save percentage in 11 appearances with Syracuse in 2006-07. He has appeared in seven games with the Bombers this season, posting a record of

2-4-1 with a 3.25 goals-against average and a .881 save percentage. Most recently, LaCosta picked up his second win as a Bomber by stopping 25 of 26 shots in the Bombers 3-1 win in Johnstown on Sunday, January 28. The 20-year-old native of Labrador City, Newfoundland, is in his first professional season after four junior seasons with Owen Sound and Barrie in the OHL.

LaCosta is the second former Bomber to receive this award in the last two seasons. In 2005-06, Mike Ayers also won the award during the week of January 14th while in Syracuse.

The Bombers return to the Nutter Center on Tuesday, February 13, at 7:00 p.m. to take on the Toledo Storm. The game against Toledo will be another 2 for Tuesday's sponsored by Prestige Ford. All Silver Level seats are available at 2 for 1 at the Nutter Center box office and popcorn, pretzels and hot dogs are 2 for 1 at all concession stands. A special happy hour is also available from 6-7 p.m.
