ANCHORAGE, Alaska - The ECHL has named Alaska goalie Derek Gustafson its RBC Financial Group Saver of the Month for January.

Gustafson won all eight of his starts in January, part of a 10-game winning streak that ended Saturday, and finished the month with a 1.48 goals against average and a .944 save percentage. The 27-year-old native of Gresham, Oregon, now in his seventh professional season, kick-started January with a pair of shutouts against Utah, stopping all 48 shots he faced in 7-0 and 6-0 victories to earn ECHL Goaltender of the Week honors for January 1-7. After starting the year 2-6, Gustafson had gone 14-1-1 in his last 16 outings before finally losing 6-2 to Gwinnett on Saturday. He has won six in a row at home heading into tomorrow's game against Fresno.

Gustafson's last full season in the ECHL prior to signing with the Aces came in 2003-04, when he finished runner-up in the Goaltender of the Year voting with a 28-14 record to go along with a 2.09 GAA (second in the league) and five shutouts. He has an NHL victory on his resume, 4-1 over the New York Islanders March 9, 2001.

The Aces, owners of the league's best record at 30-12-2 and winners of seven straight at Sullivan Arena, open a five-game homestand tomorrow and Wednesday night at 7:15 p.m. against the Falcons, followed by a three-game set with the Phoenix Roadrunners Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The first two games of the series start at 7:15 p.m., with the Sunday "Skate with the Aces," presented by Fred Meyer, slated for a 5:05 p.m. face-off. Tickets for this week's games are available by calling 258-ACES or logging onto www.alaskaaces.com, while all five games will be broadcast live on flagship station KFQD 750 AM.
