Gladiators Weekly Update
November 22, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL)
Atlanta Gladiators News Release
On Record Pace: Gladiators captain Cam Brown added his sixth goal of the season in Wednesday's 4-2 loss at Louisiana and then recorded his seventh in Friday's 4-3 overtime loss against Charlotte. For the veteran forward, he is a quarter of the way to his all time professional goal total, just 12 games into the season. Brown posted a career high 23 goal for the Baton Rouge Kingfish during the 1999-2000 season in 17 games. If the Saskatoon, Saskatchewan native continues at his current pace, he'll set a career high for goals in Mid-February.
On the Board: The Gladiators have not lost this season when Chris Durno has posted at least one point in a game. The Gladiators are 4-0-2 this season when he record a point and just 1-3-1 when the forward is kept off the score sheet. Durno is currently on the 7-day injured reserve due to a lower body injury.
From Chicago: Adam Smyth returned to the Gladiators from the Chicago Wolves on Thursday. It is Smyth's second assignment to Gwinnett after the rookie forward began the season with the Chicago Wolves. In 3 games in the American Hockey League, Smyth did not tally a point for Chicago. Smyth tallied his first professional point in the Gladiators 6-1 win over Mississippi on November 5th.
Four is Right In: With a 5-3-4 record on the year, the Gladiators have not allowed more than 4 goals in any game this season including Friday's 4-3 overtime loss against Charlotte. Gwinnett has allowed 4 goals in eight different games, winning just one – a 5-4 shootout win over Texas on November 9th. Gwinnett has given up 3 goals three times and 1 goal just once. The Gladiators have not given up 2 goals yet this season.
Record Watch: Gladiators veteran forward Cam Brown continues to creep towards the All Time ECHL games played record as he appeared in his 662nd ECHL game in Friday's 4-3 overtime loss against Charlotte. The Saskatoon, Saskatchewan native needs just 16 more ECHL games played to tie Rod Taylor's current ECHL record of 678 set during 13 ECHL seasons with four different teams. Brown has also appeared in 140 American & International Hockey League games in his career.
One Goal Games: The Gladiators have been involved in seven one goal games this season, not including the Gladiators 5-3 win over Greenville where they tallied an empty net goal late for the two goal margin. Gwinnett is 3-0-4 in one goal games and 4-0-4 counting the game against Greenville.
