Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies News Release

BULLIES REWIND: The Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies put together two victories around a shootout loss Friday vs. Wheeling to keep their unbeaten streak intact at six games and become the first 20-point team in the National Conference. With a 5-0-1 mark in their last six games, the Bullies retain sole possession of first place in the North Division for another week, three points ahead of the Toledo Storm.

Tuesday, Luke Curtin tallied a goal and an assist and Jake Moreland made 30 saves to lead the Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies to a 3-1 victory over the Dayton Bombers before 1423 at Historic Boardwalk Hall. The win was Atlantic City's fifth in a row. Brett Nowak opened the scoring at 17:37 of the first period when he took a feed from Luke Curtin at the left-wing circle and slapped the puck through Bombers goalie Michael Ayers' pads to give Atlantic City a 1-0 lead. Dayton would tally the equalizer at 14:38 of the second as Matt Herneisen picked up Alex Johnstone's rebound in the slot and ripped a backhander past Bullies goaltender Jake Moreland to tie the score 1-1. Curtin gave the Bullies the lead for good with a power play tally at 5:29 of the third period. From the rim of the right-wing circle, Curtin's slap shot along the ice deflected off of Ayers, popped into the air over the goaltender, and rolled into the net to give Atlantic City a 2-1 advantage. Derek Edwardson would give the Bullies some insurance at 7:06 of the third period, beating Ayers over the right shoulder from the slot to tally the final goal in the 3-1 win. Atlantic City out-shot Dayton 41-31. Moreland made 30 saves to earn his 6th win of the season. The Bullies went 1-3 on the power play.

Friday, Mark Kosick tallied the game-tying goal with 12.1 seconds left in regulation and notched the game-winner in the fourth round of the shootout to lead the Wheeling Nailers to a 2-1 shootout victory over the Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies before 1693 at Historic Boardwalk Hall. The loss snaps Atlantic City's five-game winning streak. The Bullies (8-4-2) opened the scoring at 4:23 of the first period on the power play. Fraser Clair fed a wide open Dave Reid cutting into the slot, and Reid ripped a slap shot over the right shoulder of Wheeling goaltender Danny Sabourin to give the Bullies a 1-0 lead. It would stay that way until the final seconds of regulation. With Sabourin pulled for the extra attacker, Kosick collected Randy Perry's point shot on the weak side and slipped it past Bullies goaltender Jake Moreland at 19:47 to tie the game at 1-1. After a scoreless overtime, Kosick and Chris MacKenzie recorded shootout goals for Wheeling, while Luke Curtin netted the only shootout goal for the Bullies. Wheeling out-shot Atlantic City 37-28. Moreland made 36 saves in dropping to 6-2-1 on the year.

Saturday, Fraser Clair tallied a pair of goals including the game-winner and Derek Edwardson added three assists to lead the Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies to a 5-2 win over the South Carolina Stingrays before 3027 at Historic Boardwalk Hall. Atlantic City is now 6-0-1 in their last 7 games. Scott Horvath got Atlantic City (9-4-2) on the board at 12:19 of the first period when he lifted the loose puck on the right side over South Carolina goaltender Maxime Daigneault to give the Bullies a 1-0 lead. Clair made it 2-0 with his first tally of the evening, taking a centering feed in the slot from Dustan Heintz and ripping a slap shot by Daigneault at 16:14 of the first. Clair notched his second goal of the game off a turnover by South Carolina's Doug Andress at 2:06 of the second period. Off the turnover in the zone, Edwardson centered a pass to Clair who beat Daigneault through the pads to give the Bullies a 3-0 advantage. Vince Macri increased the Bullies lead to 4-0 when his slap shot from the right point beat a screened Daigneault at 15:16 of the period. South Carolina (7-6-1) would strike back with a pair of power play goals in the third period. After Heintz was issued a match penalty, the Stingrays struck first at 4:52 as Mark Ardelan ripped a slap shot by Bullies goaltender Jake Moreland to make it a 4-1 game. Joe Tenute brought the Stingrays back to within two goals at 4-2, tapping a centering feed across the crease from Rich Peverly by Moreland at 8:14 on the power play. Paul Caponigri gave the Bullies some addition insurance as he beat Daigneault from the left-wing circle at 14:33 of the third to cap the scoring. South Carolina out-shot the Bullies 33-32. Moreland made 31 saves to earn his seventh win of the year. The Bullies went 0-5 on the power play and failed to record a power play goal for the first time in seven games.

Honorable mention goes out to goaltender Jake Moreland who went 2-0-1 for the week and now has made nine consecutive starts in the absence of Adam Munro.
