Gulls now winless in four, but help is here

November 22, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL)
San Diego Gulls News Release

SAN DIEGO –– Losses to the Bakersfield Condors (overtime) and Fresno Falcons last week have extended the San Diego Gulls' winless streak to four games and road losing streak to three games. But reinforcements are back in the lineup with the signing of NHLer Curtis Brown and the activation of Sylvain Deschatelets.

Brown officially signed with San Diego on Tuesday and made his Gulls debut Saturday in Fresno. He was held off the scoresheet, but created many scoring opportunites. Deschatelets, who co-lead the team with 81 points last season, chipped in with an assist. Recovering from offseason wrist surgery forced Deschatelets to miss San Diego's first 10 games.

WEEK IN REVIEW:

Nov. 17 vs. Bakersfield:

Mike Hofstrand netted the game-winner 1:35 into overtime, lifting the Condors to a 2-1 win over San Diego. The Gulls jumped out to a 1-0 lead early in the first period and held that lead until midway through the third period. That's when Bakersfield's Connor James tied.

Nov. 20 @ Fresno:

Rookie netminder Brett Jaeger turned aside 36 of 38 shots, while the Falcons cashed in on three out-numbered attacks, beating the Gulls 3-2. Shaun Sutter gave Fresno a 1-0 lead before Guillaume Fournier tied it late in the first. Jason Weaver scored a breakaway goal in the second and Dan Tessier connected on a two-on-one in the third period to make it a 3-1 game. Colin Shields tacked on a power-play goal, but that's as close as San Diego could get.

PLAYER NOTES:

Darren Clark had his career-high eight-game point streak snapped on Wednesday... Shields scored his first professional goal on Saturday... Brian Gornick (knee) and Mathieu Chouinard (hip) both remain on the injured list... Sean O'Connor remains with the American Hockey League's Cincinnati Mighty Ducks...

TEAM NOTES:

San Diego is 3-0-1 at home and 1-5-1 on the road... The Gulls are winless in their last four games (0-3-1) and have lost three straight on the road... San Diego has been outscored 13-5 during its four-game winless streak... The Gulls have scored 22 goals in their four wins, but just eight goals in their seven losses (which includes an overtime and shootout loss)... San Diego plays its next nine games at home... The Gulls were 5-4-2 through 11 games last season...

The Gulls begin its season-long nine-game homestand Saturday against the Falcons, with game-time set for 7:05 p.m. San Diego will then host Bakersfield Sunday at 5:05 p.m. Saturday's game will be Mullet Night and special T-shirts and free haircut vouchers, courtesy of Supercuts, will be given to the first 6,000 fans in attendance.
