South Carolina Stingrays News Release

DULUTH, Ga. - Chad Painchaud and Scott Mifsud scored two goals each to lead the Gwinnett Gladiators past the South Carolina Stingrays 6-2 before 4,283 fans at The Arena at Gwinnett Center.

"We were horrible on their rush and d-zone coverage," South Carolina coach Jason Fitzsimmons said. "We weren't strong defensively in our zone and five-on-five. We have an opportunity to get back in the win column against Columbia and that's what we intend to do."

South Carolina (23-17-3, 49 points) opened the score at 16:35 of the first period as Stephen Werner sent a great breakaway pass up the middle to Matt Stefanishion, who beat goaltender Dave Caruso for his 10th goal of the season.

Gwinnett (26-13-5, 57 points) went ahead within a span of 28 seconds in the second period. Painchaud tallied his 13th and 14th goals of the season getting the puck past netminder Davis Parley, who was making his 18th straight start in the Stingrays net.

Cail MacLean got the Stingrays back on even terms by taking a centering pass from Jarrett Konkle to bury his 16th goal of the campaign at the 12:23 mark.

Gladiators' Blue Bennefield tipped a shot from just inside the blue line at 16:20 from Jon Sitko to give Gwinnett a 3-2 lead.

Then Gwinnett went up 4-2 as Mifsud potted his 15th tally of the season at 17:41 from Colton Fretter.

In the third, Bryan Dobek and Mifsud added his second of the game to round out the scoring. After the sixth Gwinnett goal, Parley was lifted in favor of goaltender Jorge Alves, who saw his first regular season action of the season, and didn't allow a goal while making three saves down the stretch.

South Carolina was 0-for-3 on the power play, while Gwinnett went 0-for-7 with the man advantage. Gladiators outshot the Stingrays 43-32.
