Yutaka Fukufuji Re-Assigned To Reading From Los Angeles

Reading, PA - The Los Angeles Kings of the National Hockey League today announced that goaltender Yutaka Fukufuji ("you TAHK uh FOO kah FOO gee") has been re-assigned to the Reading Royals of the ECHL. Fukufuji (6'1"/190 lbs.) (24), an eighth round selection (#238) by the Kings in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, was recalled by Los Angeles from the Manchester Monarchs of the American Hockey League on January 12 and played in four games for the Kings, going 0 - 3 - 0 with a 4.38 goals against average and .837 save percentage. During this stint with the Kings, Fukufuji, who is in his third season of North American pro hockey, became the first Japanese born player to participate in an NHL game. Fukufuji began this season with the Royals and appeared in ten games for Reading, compiling a record of 3 - 3 - 0 with a 3.19 gaa and .898 save percentage. On December 1, 2006, Fukufuji was re-assigned by the Kings from the Royals to Manchester, where he appeared in three games and compiled a record of 2 - 0 - 0 with a 1.30 gaa and a 954 save percentage.

Fukufuji is expected to be in uniform for the Royals this evening at the Sovereign Center when Reading takes on the Johnstown Chiefs in a game sponsored by Van Scoy Jewelers. Royals' game night broadcasts can be heard live on ESPN Radio 1240 am (and on the internet through the Royals' website, www.royalshockey.com), beginning thirty minutes before the opening face-off. Streaming video is also available for $6.00 per game through the B2 Networks, which can be accessed through the Royals' website.
