Atlanta Gladiators News Release
DULUTH, Ga. - The Gladiators announced that they have signed goaltender Andrew Loewen on Tuesday. Loewen has played in 12 games with the Columbus Cottonmouths of the SPHL this season.
Loewen, 29, played in three games for the Gladiators in the 2013-14 season. In those spot starts, Loewen was 1-1 with a 3.11 goals against average and a 0.896 save percentage.
The Winnipeg, Manitoba native has played the vast majority of his career with the Columbus Cottonmouths since 2010. Across five seasons, Loewen has played in 130 games for the Cottonmouths, with an average of a 2.51 GAA and a .920 SV%.
Prior to his professional career, Loewen played in 85 games over four years at Canisius College of the Atlantic Hockey Association. His best season came in 2008-09 when he went 9-7-4 with a 2.81 GAA and a .919 SV% in 21 games.
Loewen is perhaps best known for his dancing abilities, however. Videos of him "Wobbling" in full goaltender gear during the second intermission of Cottonmouths games have garnered national attention in the United States and Canada, and have pulled in over a million views on YouTube.
Loewen will join the Gladiators just prior to their Tuesday night game against the Florida Everblades at The Arena at Gwinnett Center. It will be the team's annual Winter Coat Drive; fans can donate new and gently used winter clothing items and the Gladiators will bring those items to those in need in Atlanta-area homeless shelters.
For tickets and schedule information, visit the official team website at www.gwinnettgladiators.com or call the main office line at 770-497-5100.
The Gladiators are members of the ECHL, the nation's premier "AA" hockey league, and are affiliated with the Arizona Coyotes of the NHL. All home games are played at the 11,355-seat Arena at Gwinnett Center, located just off I-85 on Sugarloaf Parkway in Duluth - where parking is always free.
As Atlanta's "One and Only" professional hockey team, the Gladiators have established an extraordinary winning tradition and unrivaled commitment to excellence, maintaining a distinctive reputation for affordable and family-friendly sports entertainment. The Gladiators are consistently ranked as one of the top "Things To Do" in the Atlanta area and across the North Georgia region.
