Sebastien Thinel Nets 1000th Career Point

Wichita, KS (December 30, 2014)- Team Captain and veteran left wing, Sebastien Thinel, made team history on Tuesday night, notching his 1000th profesisonal career point with two back-to-back third period goals, capturing not only a monumental personal record, but becoming the first Missouri Mavericks player in franchise history to reach this milestone.

Thinel, in his fourth consecutive season with the Missouri Mavericks has tallied 83 goals and 215 assists for 298 points in a Missouri sweater since the 2011-12 season. The St. Jerome, Quebec native claimed the Central Hockey League MVP award twice during his tenure in the CHL, and will forever be recognized as second in all-time CHL assists (609 assists) and third in all-time CHL points (919 points).

The Missouri Mavericks (13-12-1-2, 29 points) came from behind on Tuesday night to earn a point in a 3-2 overtime loss to the Wichita Thunder (14-10-1-4, 33 points) at the INTRUST Bank Arena in Kansas. The Mavericks have now earned a point in a season-high four consecutive games (1-0-1-2) and the Thunder extends their point streak to six straight games (5-0-0-1).

Missouri runs their road record to an impressive 7-6-1-1 and are 2-0-1-1 in their last four road contests. Wichita improves their home record to 9-5-0-2 and the Thunder have now won five of six games this season against the Mavs.

The Mavs trailed 2-0 heading into the game's final six minutes before Sebastien Thinel scored a pair of goals just 2:45 apart to tie the game and force extra time. Missouri improves to 3-10-1 on the season when trailing after two periods and are now 3-3 in games decided in overtime or a shootout.

After a scoreless first 37 minutes, Wichita took the lead at the 17:37 mark of the middle period when Danick Gauthier scored his team-leading 14th goal of the season.

Wichita would add to their lead with a power play goal in the third period scored by Ian Lowe, his 10th goal of the season coming at the 11:57 mark of the final frame.

But with their backs against the wall, Thinel and the Mavericks would rebound to keep their point streak intact. The Captain's first strike came at the 14:43 mark, assisted by Lindsay Sparks and Andrew Courtney, and the tying goal came at the 17:28 mark, assisted by Patch Alber and Sparks.

For Thinel, it marks his seventh and eighth goals of the season and his first score in seven games (last goal came on December 9th in a win over Brampton. The veteran leads the team with 26 points (8-1826) on the season and he has three multiple-point games in his last six contests.

With his pair of assists, Sparks now has four goals and seven assists (11 points) in his last six games and Courtney now has points in nine of his last 11 games (seven goals and five assists over that stretch).

The game ultimately was decided in overtime with RG Flath notching his fourth goal of the season, first game winning goal. Flath's goal came at the 3:31 mark of the OT session.

Maxime Lagace made 23 stops in the game and sees his record move to 5-2-1-1.

Tim Boron continued his stellar play for the Thunder making 17 saves in the game. The netminder is 5-0-0-1 in his last six decisions allowing just 10 total goals over that span.

The two rivals meet again in less than 24 hours with a New Year's Eve showdown at Independence Events Center. Face-off is scheduled for 7:05 PM (CST). Fans are invited to join the Mavericks for a special post-game skate with the team and family-friendly countdown to 2015! Pre-registration for the post-game skate is required.
