December 30, 2014 - ECHL (ECHL)
Atlanta Gladiators News Release
DULUTH, Ga. - In their seventh meeting of the season, the Gladiators (9-18-1-0) could not hold on to the lead after their initial first goal, and fell to the division-leading Florida Everblades (21-4-0-1) Tuesday night. Travis Ouellette scored the only Gladiator goal, while Mike Little had a three point night for Florida.
The scoreless first period was punctuated by a brutal check on Nathan Burns courtesy of Bobby Preece at the nearside of the offensive blue line. After a few moments, Burns left the ice with assistance. Once play resumed, Dyson Stevenson took the opportunity to stand up for his ailing teammate and immediately challenged Preece to a fight, showing him whose home ice this was by knocking him to the ground.
It was more of the same in the second period, with both teams unable to score early on. Just over halfway through the period, the Gladiators broke through to take the initial 1-0 lead. On a successful forecheck, J.P. Labardo fed the puck to Travis Ouellette. He then held on to the puck for a second, found where he wanted to place it, and picked the corner, right past Andy Iles.
Florida, who is second in the league on the power play, was able to add to their total at 18:30 of the second. John McInnis, standing all alone at the top of the slot on the man-advantage, slapped in a shot past Andrew Loewen. The "ËBlades lit up the scoreboard in their favor 55 seconds later on a quick goal from Mike Little.
The Everblades opened the third period with a third goal at 4:13. After Loewen made the initial stretch save to his left off a shot from Little, Jason Wilson took full advantage of the rebound and put the puck in the net. The Gladiators fought back the remainder of the period, but were unable to answer Florida's three goals.
In his season debut with the Gladiators, Andrew Loewen saved 28 of 31 shots, while the opposing goaltender, Andy Iles, stopped all but one of the Gladiators' 28 shots.
The Glads will play their third game of the seven-game homestand this Friday against the Elmira Jackals at 7:35 p.m. Friday's game is also "Friendly Friday" at The Arena at Gwinnett Center, where fans can take advantage of an all-inclusive ticket offer, which includes a ticket plus food and drink.
