WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah -The Colorado Eagles (18-11-0-0) were able to make it a close contest but ultimately fell to the Utah Grizzlies (12-13-2-2) 3-2 Monday night at the Maverik Center.
At the 13:53 mark of the first period, forward Vinny Scarsella gave the Grizzlies the 1-0 advantage as he caught a cross-slot pass from Patrick Wellar and tucked goal past Eagles netminder Doug Carr.
Just 7:15 into the second frame, Grizzlies forward Mathieu Aubin beat Carr glove-side high from the bottom of the circle to gain the 2-0 lead over the Eagles for the second game in a row. With just 1:42 left in the second, Eagles forward Derek Rodwell cut the Grizzlies lead in half, 2-1, as he tipped a shot from linemate Chris Knowlton over Utah goalie Igor Bobkov.
Three minutes and fifty six seconds into the third, Grizzlies forward Mike Pelech stuffed home a power-play goal to gain the 3-1 edge over the Eagles. With only 6 seconds left in the third and Carr pulled in favor of the extra attacker, Eagles forward Darryl Bootland made it a one-goal game, but it wasn't enough to get the win as the Grizzlies were triumphant, 3-2.
