Greenville Swamp Rabbits News Release
Greenville, SC - Adam Morrison stopped all 21 shots he faced on Tuesday as the South Carolina Stingrays (16-10-5) defeated the Greenville Road Warriors (19-11-1), proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and the AHL's Hartford Wolf Pack, 5-0 at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena.
The shutout was Morrison's second in a row against the Road Warriors after he made 25 saves on Nov. 16th in a 2-0 win in North Charleston. The Stingrays have now defeated Greenville in five straight games, dating back to Nov. 1st.
The Stingrays opened the scoring at 10:50 of the first period courtesy of Braden Pimm's team-leading 10th goal of the season. After Greenville failed to clear its zone, Derek DeBlois grabbed the puck at the right half-wall and centered a pass for Pimm at the doorstep for a one-timer past goaltender Jeff Malcolm.
South Carolina made it 2-0 at the 11:57 mark of the middle frame when Wayne Simpson found Caleb Herbert from behind the net, who pushed home a quick shot from a sharp angle on the left side.
The Stingrays continued to extend their lead with three goals in the third period for the 5-0 final. At the 8:22 mark, former Road Warriors' forward Brandon Hynes scored his fifth goal of the season when DeBlois sent a cross-ice pass to the doorstep for the one-time finish. Just 1:02 later, Wayne Simpson beat Malcolm from the right circle on a wrist shot for his ninth goal this season. Cody Sylvester capped the scoring at the 17:34 mark when he finished a pass from Simpson for his seventh of the year.
The Road Warriors ended the game 0-for-2 on the power play and 2-for-2 on the penalty kill. Malcolm (11-6-0) made 26 saves, but suffered the loss.
South Carolina outshot Greenville 31-21.
