Promotion: It's Smart Solar Power Teddy Bear Toss Night! Bring as many stuffed animals as you can carry to toss onto the ice when the Reign score their first goal - all stuffed animals will be donated to Toys for Tots! Tonight is also Boy Scout Night! The Reign invite Boy Scout Troops and Packs from around Southern California to join in the fun and root for the home team together.
TONIGHT:
The Ontario Reign (12-3-1-3=32 points), host the San Francisco Bulls (7-12-1-1=16 points) for the second straight night after seeing their largest loss of the season with a 4-1 defeat against the Bulls. The loss wasn't enough to push the Reign out of the lead in the Pacific Division or Western Conference, but it did allow for the South Carolina Stingrays to get a point ahead with 33 points to the Reign's 32.
LET THE FUR FLY:
Tonight marks the Reign's fourth annual Teddy Bear Toss. The first year the team hosted the toss, in 2010-11, the Reign were shutout 1-0 by Las Vegas. The next two years saw Reign stand-outs score the first tally, begging the question who will it be tonight? In 2011-12, C.J. Stretch, 22 at the time and currently playing with the Oklahoma City Barons, scored the first goal of the game exactly nine minutes into play. Last season, Reign fan-favorite Colton Yellow Horn, 25 when he scored, lit the lamp to unleash the bears at the 15:29 mark of the first period. The Reign are 1-2-0-0 in Teddy Bear Toss games.
LEADING MEN:
The Reign's Jake Newton is tied as the highest scoring defenseman in the league with his seven goals. Mike Towns' seven major penalties is the second most in the league. Captain Derek Couture has 70 shots on goal this season putting him just four shots behind the league leader. Goaltender Michael Hutchinson now leads the league with 942 minutes between the pipes and 12 wins this season.
PENALTY KILLING:
The Reign have allowed only two power-play goals on 34 opposition chances in the last 10 games and have scored six power-play goals on 30 advantage opportunities in 10 games.
SECOND PERIOD STATS:
Ontario has been coming out strong in the second period with the most goals and shots-for with 26 and 206 respectively, and the fewest goals and shots-against with 11 and 165, respectively.
