Stingrays Earn Sixth-Straight Win with 5-1 Victory over Orlando

Orlando, FL - Forward Andrew Cherniwchan scored two goals and an assist for the second-straight game to lead the South Carolina Stingrays (16-2-1-2) 5-1 over the Orlando Solar Bears (12-9-0-1) at the Amway Center Saturday evening. The win extends the team's winning streak to six games, point streak to seven contests (6-0-0-1) and road record to 9-0-0-2.

The Stingrays dominated the first period putting four goals past Solar Bears goaltender Garrett Sparks (L, 12 saves on 16 shots). Forward Wayne Simpson kicked off the scoring at 6:31 rifling a shot over the blocker of Sparks from between the faceoff circles. Cherniwchan picked up the lone assist. Cherniwchan made it 2-0 with his seventh goal of the season at 14:33 with help from Simpson. Forward Peter Boyd jumped on the score sheet lifting a wrist shot from the left-wing circle over the glove of Sparks at 17:52 from defensemen Luka Vidmar and Jeremy Price . With 14 seconds left in the frame, Cherniwchan netted his second goal of the game redirecting and Derrick Pallis shot from the left-wing point. Forward Marc Hagel acquired the second assist. Netminder John Curry (18 saves on 19 shots) would replace Sparks at the start of the second period.

Forward Patrick Gaul lit the lamp in the third frame to give the Stingrays a five-goal advantage beating Curry over the right shoulder with help from forward Lindsay Sparks at 8:38. With six seconds remaining in the contest, Solar Bears defenseman Colton Jobke spoiled Jeff Jakaitis' (W, 33 saves on 34 shots) shutout with a drive from the left-wing point. The Stingrays finished the night 0-for-4 on the power play while the Solar Bears went 0-for-3.

The Stingrays wrap up a six-game road trip on Friday, December 13 against the Gwinnett Gladiators at 7:05 p.m. at The Arena at Gwinnett Center in Duluth, Georgia and return to the North Charleston Coliseum on Saturday, December 14 to take on the Solar Bears at 7:05 p.m. on College Night and Teddy Bear Toss benefiting Debi's Kids .

The Stingrays will wear special Clemson University jerseys and auction them LIVE after the contest. Clemson alum and two-time Super Bowl Champion Jim Stuckey will drop the ceremonial first puck along with Charleston native and "Survivor: One World" finalist Chelsea Meissner .
