Road Warriors Blanked by Kalamazoo Wings

Greenville, SC: The Road Warriors fell to Kalamazoo Wings by a score of 2-0 on Saturday night. Jordan Binnington posted his first professional shutout in the 36 save performance.

The first period started off with seven penalties and a slow for the Road Warriors, who only had five shots on goal. The Wings challenged Road Warriors' goalie Scott Stajcer with 14 shots, but Stajcer held off all of Kalamazoo's scoring chances.

The Road Warriors had 17 shots on goal in the second frame, but Binnington remained strong. Stajcer saved all nine shots in the second period.

Much of the third period remained scoreless. With four minutes left in the third, Kalamazoo forward Matt Caira shattered the scoreless tied with a goal off a Road Warrior turnover. The Wings solidified their win with 34.2 seconds left in the third when Yanni Gourde scored a goal off an assist from Eric Kattelus. Gourde scored his tenth of the year on his own rebound to finalize the score at 2-0.

The Road Warriors will face the Gwinnett Gladiators tomorrow at 3:00 p.m. for Epilepsy Awareness Day. To help raise money and awareness for Epilepsy, a silent auction will take place on the concourse during the game. Items to be auctioned include autographed music, movie and sports memorabilia, jewelry, gift certificates and more with all proceeds benefiting South Carolina Advocates for Epilepsy (S.A.F.E.). Fans can also stay after the game to watch Greenville North vs. Greenville South in a high school hockey game at the Bons Secours Wellness Arena! Sundays are also Family Fun Days with the Warriors! Kid's meals are only $5 and BI-LO shoppers can use their Bonus Cards to get up to four free tickets in the BI-LO Family Fun Section while supplies last (a $52 vaule).
