Orlando, FL - South Carolina tallied four first period goals en route to a 5-1 victory over the Solar Bears at the Amway Center on Saturday night.
A four goal first period allowed the Stingrays to build up a big lead to start the game. 6:31 into the contest, F Wayne Simpson picked the top corner of the net and it was followed up by F Andrew Cherniwchan when he knocked in his own rebound at 14:33 to put the Stingrays ahead 2-0. F Peter Boyd potted his sixth of the year with a low wrist shot and then with 14.8 seconds left in the period Cherniwchan put home his second goal of the period to give the Stingrays a 4-0 lead going into the first intermission.
The score remained 4-0 until the 8:38 mark of the third period when F Patrick Gaul whipped a puck off the shoulder of G John Curry and just over the line to put South Carolina ahead 5-0. Orlando broke the shutout bid with just over six seconds left in the game when D Colton Jobke wristed a shot from the blue line with traffic in front of the net for the game's final 5-1 score.
