Orlando, FL - South Carolina tallied four first period goals en route to a 5-1 victory over the Solar Bears at the Amway Center on Saturday night.

A four goal first period allowed the Stingrays to build up a big lead to start the game. 6:31 into the contest, F Wayne Simpson picked the top corner of the net and it was followed up by F Andrew Cherniwchan when he knocked in his own rebound at 14:33 to put the Stingrays ahead 2-0. F Peter Boyd potted his sixth of the year with a low wrist shot and then with 14.8 seconds left in the period Cherniwchan put home his second goal of the period to give the Stingrays a 4-0 lead going into the first intermission.

The score remained 4-0 until the 8:38 mark of the third period when F Patrick Gaul whipped a puck off the shoulder of G John Curry and just over the line to put South Carolina ahead 5-0. Orlando broke the shutout bid with just over six seconds left in the game when D Colton Jobke wristed a shot from the blue line with traffic in front of the net for the game's final 5-1 score.

F Michael Catenacci made his Solar Bears debut tonight... G John Curry relieved G Garret Sparks at the start of the second period... D Colton Jobke's third period goal was the first for Orlando since D Blake Kessel scored 4:59 into Wednesday's game against Colorado. It snapped a string of 11 straight goals surrendered by the Solar Bears... Tomorrow's game marks the end of a six-game home stand for the Solar Bears.
