Cincinnati Cyclones News Release

WHEELING, West Virginia - Sahir Gill's second round shootout goal proved to be the game-winner as the Wheeling Nailers (13-5-0-3) snuck past the Cincinnati Cyclones (12-7-0-1) by a 2-1 final score in front of 2,206 at WesBanco Arena on Saturday night. It was the first time this season that the Cyclones suffered a defeat in the extra session.

The Nailers got on the board just 36 seconds into the opening frame as Sahir Gill beat Michael Houser (SOL, 23 saves, 4-4-1) with a shoulder-high wrist shot to make it 1-0. And as Wheeling's Mike Condon (W, 28 saves, 10-3-0-2) turned aside all eights shots he faced in the first, Wheeling held the lead at the first intermission.

After a scoreless middle period, the Cyclones finally lit the lamp as Wade Megan worked to the low slot and sniped in his 10th goal of the season to tie the score at one. With neither team able to break the deadlock in regulation, the contest was forced into overtime. With five minutes of bonus hockey also going scoreless, a shootout proved necessary for the second straight match-up. After a scoreless first round, Sahir Gill lit the lamp with a low shot past Houser to give his team the edge. It would turn out to be the game-winner as Condon denied all four Cincinnati shooters, including Megan in the fourth round to seal a 2-1 victory for the Nailers.

The Cyclones will return to the ice at U.S. Bank Arena on Tuesday, December 10 when they host the Kalamazoo Wings for the first time this season at 7:30pm! In addition to $2 24-ounce beers, the game will feature Cincy's Largest Ugly Sweater Party - with a cash prize going to the best one. Tickets are on sale now!
