Fresno Falcons Weekly Update
April 4, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL)
Fresno Falcons News Release
LAST WEEK'S RECORD: 2-2-0 OVERALL RECORD: 38-24-8, 84 pts.
March 29 @ Las Vegas, 4-2 Win - The Falcons used four different goal scorers and 28 saves from goaltender Jamie Hodson to win their eighth straight against the Wranglers.
April 1 @ Bakersfield, 4-2 Win - Brett Jaeger made 58 saves as again four different Falcons scored in Fresno's most important victory of the season. The win clinched the season series with the Condors and ensured that the Falcons would own every tie-breaker to qualify for the Kelly Cup Playoffs should Fresno and Bakersfield finish the regular season with the same number of points in the standings.
April 2 vs. Alaska, 6-3 Loss - Leading 2-1 after 20 minutes, the Falcons were then out-scored 4-0 by the Aces in the second period to trail 5-2 entering the third. NHL'er Scott Gomez' short-handed break-away goal late in the second period proved the eventual game-winner.
April 3 vs. Long Beach, 7-0 Loss - The Falcons suffered their worst loss of the season and fifth straight at home. Long Beach struck three times in the game's first 4:56 and never looked back.
THIS WEEK'S UPCOMING GAMES
Friday, April 8 vs. Long Beach, 7 p.m. - The Falcons continue their fight to qualify for the Kelly Cup Playoffs and kick-off the final two games of the regular season with a Fan Appreciation celebration featuring prize give-aways throughout the weekend. The first 3,500 fans in attendance will receive a Falcons Poster courtesy of Dumont Printing, Carl's Jr., KSEE 24 and ESPN 1430.
Saturday, April 9 vs. Long Beach, 7 p.m. - Fan Appreciation Weekend continues with more prize give-aways and a Hockey Mr. Potato Head for the first 2,500 fans through the Save Mart Center doors courtesy of Solutions Mortgage, Comcast and KISS Country. Stick around after the game to see the Exclusive Sounds Three Stars of the Season honored at center ice.
NOTES
. Dan Tessier had three goals and two assists last week to overtake Shaun Sutter for the team scoring lead. The Falcons captain has 59 points and Sutter is still second on the club with 56 points. Both players are tied for the team goal-scoring lead with 25 apiece.
. Tessier tied Derek Krestanovich for the team's longest goal-scoring streak this season with one goal in four straight games from March 26 - Apr. 2.
. Brett Jaeger's 58 saves on Friday tied fellow Falcons goaltender Jamie Hodson for the most saves in a single game this year across the entire ECHL.
. Newly acquired defenseman Lee Green scored a goal in his professional debut on Saturday against the Aces.
. The Falcons are still alive in the playoff race, but their two losses to finish the weekend cost them the opportunity to control their own destiny. They are two points behind the fourth-place Bakersfield Condors, who finish the season by hosting the Idaho Steelheads this Friday and Saturday. If Fresno manages to tie Bakersfield in the standings once Saturday's games are complete, which would require the Condors to lose at least one of their remaining games, the Falcons would capture the final playoff berth out of the West Division.
