Fresno Falcons News Release
Fresno, Calif. - The Long Beach Ice Dogs scored four goals in the first ten minutes of play, as well as two shorthanded goals, to shutout the Fresno Falcons 7-0 at Save Mart Center.
The Ice Dogs pounded the Falcons at the beginning of the first period with three goals scored past Fresno goaltender Jamie Hodson within the first five minutes. Chris Kenady started the scoring streak at just 2:01 when he received a pass from Christian Larrivee and netted his 32nd goal of the season.
David Walker then scored at 3:20 by receiving the puck in front of the net and roofing it past Hodson. Cory Urquhart continued the scoring trend at 4:56 with assists by Joe Cardarelli and Michael Lambert to put the Ice Dogs up 3-0.
After the third goal, the Falcons replaced Hodson with Brett Jaeger, but the goals kept coming. On a power play, Nathan Martz passed the puck back to Cardarelli who then scored at 9:31.
The second period started off just like the first with the Ice Dogs scoring within the first two minutes of play. Walker netted his second goal of the night and sixth goal of the season with a slap shot from the left circle at 1:37.
The Falcons could not cut a break, and the Ice Dogs scored once more in the second period at 14:42. With Long Beach skating shorthanded, Marco Rosa broke away and charged towards Jaeger, who blocked his initial shot. Matt Shasby jumped on the loose puck and centered back to Rosa, who this time shot it past Jaeger for a 6-0 Ice Dog lead.
The final period was once again a disappointment for the Falcons who were not able to execute on numerous chances. Hodson was put back in goal for the third, but at 15:01 Larrivee scored the Ice Dogs' second shorthanded goal of the night to finalize the shutout at 7-0.
This is the Falcons' fifth loss in a row at home and their overall record is now 38-24-8. Fresno still remains in the playoff race with 84 points, two points behind the fourth-place Bakersfield Condors. Both teams still have two more regular season games to play.
The Falcons' two remaining regular season games will both be played at Save Mart Center this coming weekend against the Long Beach Ice Dogs. The first will be on Friday, April 8, at 7 p.m. followed by the regular season finale on Saturday, April 9, at 7 p.m.
Regular-priced tickets for both games are on sale for as low as $8 per seat and may be purchased directly at Save Mart Center's box office and all Ticketmaster outlets, by phone at 485-TIXS (8497), or online at www.ticketmaster.com.
