Season winding down for the Salmon Kings

April 4, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL)
Victoria Salmon Kings News Release

Victoria, BC – The Victoria Salmon Kings inaugural season is only one week from its end and the proverbial road warriors returned from their second to last road trip on Sunday.

The Salmon Kings schedule was light this past week with only two games on the slate. After returning from Florida on Sunday and having Monday – Thursday off, Victoria's week opened back on the road in Las Vegas (Loss 4-1). The Salmon Kings then found stiff competition in Long Beach (Loss 5-1) the following day to the Ice Dogs who continue to hunt down the Alaska Aces and the top spot in the West Division.

Victoria added another new player to their roster on Friday signing ex-Fresno Falcons forward and Toronto Maple Leafs 1999 draft pick Jan Sochor. Sochor plays a gritty, tenacious style, he finished with the Falcons with 6 goals and 9 assists for 15 points. The 6'0, 205 lbs. Czech Republic native will play the rest of the season with the Salmon Kings before heading back home for the summer.

Friday April 1, 2005 @ Las Vegas Wranglers (L4-1)

With eight regulars out of the line-up, Victoria limped into Vegas on Friday to take on the Wranglers one final time in the 2004-05 season. The Salmon Kings headed into the game winless against the Wranglers and looked to break the streak on April Fools. The Wranglers played the game in their beautiful brown, mustard and baby blue jersey's that were definitely and excellent April Fools joke played on the Las Vegas faithful. Mark Smith tied the game at one in the second before the Wranglers took control of the game 2-1, on Shawn Limpright's 15th of the season. The third goal of the game for the Wranglers came from a bang-bang passing play that put the game out of reach for the Salmon Kings. The Wranglers put one into the empty net capping the score at 4-1.

Saturday April 2, 2005 @ Long Beach Ice Dogs (L5-1)

The Long Beach Ice Dogs found themselves just two points back of the division leading Alaska Aces and needing only a victory against the Salmon Kings and Fresno Falcons loss to ensure a berth in the post season. Chris Kenady (18 pts.) and Evan Cheverie (21 pts.) have had their way with the Salmon Kings this season did their part in the 5-1 victory, each recording two goals on the night. The Ice Dogs opened the scoring early with the Salmon Kings down two men, and never looked back solidifying their position in the Kelly Cup Playoffs.
