San Diego Gulls News Release
SAN DIEGO â The San Diego Gulls announced Monday that Yuri Moscevsky has been signed and Brian Gornick has been recalled by the American Hockey League's Syracuse Crunch. The Gulls also announced Monday that Curtis Brown has been placed on team suspension.
Moscevsky, 26, joins the Gulls after playing most of the season with the Long Beach Ice Dogs. In 32 games for the Ice Dogs, he notched six points (3g, 3a) and a club-high 228 penalty minutes. Moscevsky also appeared in 12 AHL games this season, splitting time with Syracuse and the Milwaukee Admirals.
The 6-foot-4-inch, 220-pound native of Milwaukee spent the previous two seasons with the AHL's Cleveland Barons. Moscevsky played nine games for the West Coast Hockey League Gulls during the 1999-00 season.
Gornick, 25, was tied for the San Diego lead with 46 points (23g, 23a) and his 23 goals was also tops on the club. The 6-foot-5-inch, 210-pound native of St. Paul, Minn. appeared in 21 games for the Gulls last season, earning 24 points (9g, 15a) and ending the year with a six-game assist streak and a three-game goal-scoring streak. He spent the majority of last season playing for the AHL's Cincinnati Mighty Ducks.
Brown, 29, was placed on team suspension after opting not to play with the Gulls for the remainder of the season. In 47 games with San Diego, he recorded 38 points (9g, 29a) and 24 penalty minutes.
The 6-foot, 190-pounder from Unity Saskatchewan signed with the Gulls in November because of the NHL lockout. Brown has notched 256 points (111g, 145a) in 554 career NHL games, most of which have come with the Buffalo Sabres. He's also recorded 27 points (14g, 13a) in 69 career playoff games in the NHL. Brown was Buffalo's second round selection (43rd overall) in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft and played with the Sabres until he was traded to the San Jose Sharks last March. Last season he finished with 25 points (11g, 14a) with Buffalo and San Jose in the regular season and notched two points in 17 playoff games for the Sharks.
San Diego closes out the season with a three-game homestand, which starts Wednesday against the Idaho Steelheads at 7:05 p.m. It will be the last "Wacky Wednesday" of the season, featuring "Pooch Party III." All fans are invited to bring their dog to the game!!! The Gulls will then host the Victoria Salmon Kings for the first time on Friday and Saturday, April 9.
