San Antonio Rampage News Release

Moline, Illinois (February 20, 2009) - The Rampage and Flames put on a show Friday night at the I Wireless Center but Quad City held on for a 5-4 shootout win despite a pair of Jeff Hoggan power-play goals.

Hoggan got things going in the first when he put in a David Schlemko rebound beating Leland Irving 5:24 into the first period with a power-play goal. The Rampage dominated the period outshooting the Flames 14-7 but Quad City answered with a David Van der Gulik rebound goal with 2:40 remaining in the frame.

In the second frame, Quad City took a 2-1 lead just fifteen seconds in when John Armstrong deposited his fourth goal of the season past Rampage goalie Al Montoya.

San Antonio would reel off three straight goals to claim the lead heading into the third period. Hoggan tallied his second power-play goal of the night on a five-on-three to tie the game at 2-2. Wyatt Smith and Chad Kolarik earned assists as Hoggan teed-off from the top of the circle for his team-leading 20th goal of the season.

The Rampage would reclaim the lead 3-2 after David Spina dropped off for Joel Perrault who went rink-wide for Garth Murray. Murray's one-timer, with just over seven minutes left in the second, was his ninth tally of the season.

Spina would give the Rampage a two-goal advantage early in the third with San Antonio's third power-play goal of the night. Spina jammed home the puck to beat Kevin Lalande, who replaced Irving after Murray's goal in the second.

Quad City's Adam Cracknell answered back just thirty-eight seconds later to get the Flames back to within one. Cracknell's eighth goal of the season came at the 3:30 mark.

Things got real explosive down the stretch with both Frank Lessard and Simon Ferguson picking up fighting majors. While the Rampage penalty kill did yeoman's work negating the first six Flames power play chances, Quad City finally broke through in the waning minutes.

Cracknell notched his second goal of the game beating Montoya top shelf. Cracknell blistered a shot from the right face-off dot to tie the game at 4-4 with 1:56 remaining in regulation to help force overtime.

In sudden death San Antonio controlled the action and got the benefit of an Anders Eriksson double minor to give them a two-minute man advantage. But Quad City held firm denying the Rampage to force a shootout.

San Antonio entered 0-2 in shootouts, while the Flames were 1-5.

Cracknell, who had two goals on the night, led things off with a low-stick side bullet for a 1-0 advantage. After Lalande denied Kyle Turris, Perrault and David Schlemko, Chris Chucko went five-hole to give the Flames a 2-0 advantage.

Wyatt Smith's final chance to keep the shootout going went wide and the Flames outlasted San Antonio 5-4 to extend their franchise winning streak to six games. The win also extended the Flames franchise record home winning streak to five games.

The loss dropped Montoya to 3-14-1 on the season while Lalande stopped 13 of 14 shots and earned the win in relief of Irving.

San Antonio ends the season series with Quad City at 3-4-0-1 despite dropping the first three matchups of the season and a 7-3 decision last Saturday on Valentine's Day.

The Rampage get a day off thanks to a reschedule of Saturday's Rockford game and face Grand Rapids on Sunday. Current Rampage Head Coach Greg Ireland took Grand Rapids to the Western Conference Finals in the 05-06 season. San Antonio is 3-4-2-2 with just two games remaining on their 13-game, 25-day journey through the AHL.

The Rampage face Iowa on Tuesday as the Rodeo Road Trip concludes before returning to the Alamo City for a Saturday night matchup with West Division opponent Rockford.

It's Military Appreciation Night next Saturday, February 28th, when the IceHogs visit the AT&T Center at 7p.m.
