
P-Bruins Defeat Monarchs 5-2

Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins defeated the Manchester Monarchs 5-2 Friday evening in front of 8,707 at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. The P-Bruins got their goals from Jordan Knackstedt, Peter Schaefer, Wacey Rabbit and two goals from Johnny Boychuk. The first place P-Bruins are back at home at the Dunkin' Donuts Center Sunday versus the Springfield Falcons at 4:05 p.m. for Adam McQuaid Poster Night.
The P-Bruins took a 1-0 lead at the 5:52 mark of the opening period. Monarchs net minder Daniel Taylor played the puck behind his own net and his pass was picked off by Knackstedt who scored his seventh goal of the season. Providence grabbed a 2-0 advantage at the 6:29 mark of the period. Brad Marchand had the puck in the corner and sent it to Jeff Penner at the point. He found Boychuk who tallied his 12th goal of the season. The P-Bruins went ahead 3-0 at the 6:50 mark. Marchand grabbed the puck and left it for Boychuk at the point. He passed it into the right face off circle, where Schaefer picked it up and netted his seventh goal of the season. Manchester cut the lead to two at the 10:47 mark, while on the power play. Marty Murray tallied his tenth goal of the season, with Matt Moulson and Alec Martinez recorded the assists. The P-Bruins finished off the scoring in the first period at the 12:31 mark, while on the power play. Rabbit grabbed the puck along the board and passed it to Matt Lashoff at the right point. He fed it to Boychuk in the left face off circle and he netted his second goal of the game and 13th of the season. Providence took a 4-1 lead into the first intermission.
In the third period, Manchester pulled back within two goals at the 11:39 mark. Martinez scored his tenth goal of the season, while Justin Azevedo and Scott Parse had the assists. Providence finished off the scoring at the 17:23 mark with an empty net goal. Rabbit netted his tenth goal of the season, while Zach Hamill and Matt Marquardt picked up the assists. The P-Bruins went on to the 5-2 victory.
Tuukka Rask stopped 22 of 24 shots for the P-Bruins, while Taylor made 3 saves and Jonathan Bernier made 31 saves for the Monarchs. The P-Bruins were 1-for-5 on the power play and 5-for-6 on the penalty kill.
The P-Bruins travel to the DCU Center to take on the Worcester Sharks Saturday at 7:00 p.m. before wrapping up the weekend at The Dunk Sunday against the Springfield Falcons for Adam McQuaid Poster Night at 4:05 p.m. Information on P-Bruins tickets can be obtained by calling the team ticket office at (401) 273-5000 or by logging onto the team website at providencebruins.com.
