Connecticut Whale News Release

Lowell, MA, February 20, 2009: P.A. Parenteau scored a pair of goals, Artem Anisimov had a goal and two assists, and Matt Zaba made 36 saves, as the Hartford Wolf Pack defeated the Lowell Devils 5-2 at the Paul Tsongas Arena Friday.

It was the first victory in five tries against the Devils for the Wolf Pack, who were 0-3-0-1 in four previous meetings in the season series. Hartford won despite being outshot by a margin of 38-28. The win kept the Wolf Pack in third place in the Atlantic Division, three points ahead of the Devils, who are tied with Worcester for fourth place.

Patrick Rissmiller and Tomas Zaborsky also scored for the Wolf Pack. Barry Tallackson and Olivier Magnan scored for Lowell.

Parenteau gave the Wolf Pack the game's first lead at the 10:25 mark of the first period. Parenteau moved laterally along the blue line from left to right, took a couple of steps up the middle and fired a slapshot off of Lowell starting goaltender Jeff Frazee's glove and into the net. Parenteau, the Wolf Pack's leading scorer with 62 points, had been held off the scoresheet in back to back games and three of the previous four.

Anisimov made it 2-0 Hartford at 11:50 of the second period, as he stole the puck in the Lowell zone from Devil defenseman Tyler Eckford and put a backhand shot under the crossbar behind Frazee. That started a run of three goals in a span of 8:01 for the Wolf Pack, who would score a pair of power-play goals in 1:46 starting at the 18:05 mark. That was when Rissmiller made it a 3-0 Hartford advantage with his seventh goal of the year. Rissmiller played the puck to Brian Fahey, who burst down the left-wing side. Fahey backhanded the puck off of Rissmiller, and it hit Frazee and trickled into the net.

Parenteau's second of the game and 25th of the season upped the lead to 3-0 with 8.5 seconds remaining in the period. Anisimov's shot from the right-wing side of the crease was stopped by Frazee, but Parenteau buried the rebound.

Tallackson ruined Zaba's shutout bid at 4:51 of the third period, but Zaborsky restored the four-goal advantage with his first AHL goal at 13:10. Mike Ouellette rushed the puck into the Lowell zone and fed to Tom Pyatt, whose cross-slot feed found Zaborsky on left wing.

Magnan created the final margin with his first goal of the season with 31 seconds remaining.

The Wolf Pack return to Atlantic Division action Saturday night at the XL Center against the Portland Pirates at 7:00.
