Aeros edge Chops in West battle, 4-3

February 20, 2009 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Iowa Chops News Release

After flying from Chicago to Houston early Thursday morning, the Iowa Chops put forth another strong effort on Thursday night it Houston, but it wasn't meant to be as the special teams were the difference on this night. It is starting to sound like a broken record, but the Houston Aeros scored four power play goals for the second straight game against the Iowa Chops in a 4-3 win in Houston on Thursday night.

The Chops power play also had their chances in the game, but went 0 for 6 with the man advantage as the Chops winless streak hit a season-high six games.

The loss wasn't for the lack of a strong start by Iowa, who scored the game's first goal for the first time in eight tries. Iowa got on the board first as Matt Beleskey slapped home a rebound drive from TJ Trevelyan. The rest of the period was dominated by the solid goaltending of the Chops JP Levasseur.

The Aeros would take a 2-1 lead in the 2nd period thanks to two power play goals, but that was answered by a goal from the Chops Eric Boguniecki, who redirected a shot from Charlie Kronschabel.

J.P. Levasseur did all he could on the kills in the 3rd period, stopping many key shots in the first and second period's chances by Houston, but it wasn't enough as Houston took a 3-2 early in the period. Drew Miller scored a timely goal for the Chops with 13:46 left in the third period, off of an accurate pass by John de Gray and more help from Ajay Baines, getting the Chops tied once again at 3-3. It wasn't meant to be, though, as the Aeros fought tooth and nail for possession in the 3rd, keeping the Chops off the puck for much of the period.

The Chops will play the Aeros again on Saturday night at 7:35 p.m.
