Admirals Fall to IceHogs 4-1
February 20, 2009 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Milwaukee Admirals News Release
Milwaukee, WI-- Thanks in part to a hat-trick by Tim Brent, the visiting Rockford IceHogs handed the Milwaukee Admirals their third consecutive loss Thursday night in a 4-1 final at the Bradley Center.
"We're just not playing very well right now. We're getting outbattled, we're getting out competed, and we're starting to play the game as individuals instead of as a team," said Admirals Head Coach Lane Lambert.
Trailing 3-1 entering the third, Brent diminished any chance of an Admiral's comeback at 12:53 of the final period when he scored a hat-trick after a clearing attempt-gone-wrong by Admirals netminder Drew MacIntyre behind the net in the Milwaukee zone. When MacIntyre attempted to send it around the boards, Brent was there to scoop it off the sideboard and fire it into an empty net for his third goal and fourth point of the night.
The first Rockford goal of the game came in quick fashion 3:45 into the game. In a clear attempt by Rockford, the puck came to Robert Dietrich on the point but it jumped right over his blade. Brent was quick to jump on the puck and take it down the ice on the rightwing side all the way to the net where he deked to his forehand and slid it past Drew MacIntyre at an odd angle.
It was Hugh Jessiman who tied the game at one for the Admirals when he capitalized on a rebound on the powerplay with just over a minute left in the first period. He received a perfect setup pass from Nick Spaling on the leftwing side and ripped it past Joe Fallon low glove side. Defenseman Cody Franson also received an assist on the play.
The IceHogs took the 2-1 lead at 9:32 in the second period, this time on the powerplay. It was Petri Kontiola who took a blistering slapshot from middle of the blueline, and MacIntyre had no chance due to the mass amount of bodies standing in his view. The assists went to Wisconsin native Jack Skille and Tim Brent who recorded his second point of the night.
Rockford took the two goal lead at 14:27 of the second, this time again on the power-play. Tim Brent proved to be on fire when he tipped a pass/shot from Pascal Pelletier when he was breaking in front of the net down the center of the ice. Petri Kontiola also notched his second point of the night with an assist as well.
"You have to bring your attitude to the rink every day," added Lambert. "You have to believe in each other, and right now there seems to be a little bit of doubt, and we have to get that doubt out of our heads."
The Admirals travel to Chicago on Friday before returning to the Bradley Center on Saturday, February 21st at 7:30 pm against the Manitoba Moose.
