Springfield Falcons News Release

February 20, 2009 - The Springfield Falcons lost to the Worcester Sharks in overtime on Friday night by a score of 2-1 in front of a crowd of 3,997 at the MassMutual Center. Friday's overtime loss marked the third time this season Springfield has been defeated by Worcester in the extra session.

FRIDAY'S FINAL BOX SCORE

With 43-seconds remaining in the overtime period, a deflected puck was placed in the upper right corner over Springfield goaltender Devan Dubnyk's glove side elbow to end the game. Worcester's Riley Armstrong was credited with the game-winner and he was assisted by Jason Demers and T.J. Fox. Earlier in the extra session, Springfield's Ryan Potulny was robbed by Worcester goaltender Thomas Greiss to continue the night for both teams.

After trailing by one, the Falcons pulled even in the second period when Viacheslav Trukhno centered a pass to newly acquired Charles Linglet, who placed a slap shot on the open side of the net for his first Falcons goal at 6:57.

A physical middle period culminated with a roughing penalty as a player on the Worcester bench reached over the boards and shoved Tim Sestito to the ice after Sestito finished a check in front of the Sharks' bench.

The Sharks opened the scoring early in the first period when Tom Cavanagh converted just 6:21 into the opening frame assisted by Brendan Buckley and Steven Zalewski.

With 5:45 remaining in the opening period, Sestito and Andrew Desjardins settled their differences by dropping the gloves in the Worcester defensive zone. Both players received a five-minute major for the tussle, which resulted after Desjardines connected with a hard hit on Springfield's Colin McDonald.
