Norfolk Admirals News Release
NORFOLK, Va. - Justin Keller and Brandon Segal netted two goals each as the Admirals topped the Binghamton Senators 5-2 on Friday night at Norfolk Scope Arena. Each team has a win in this three-game "series", setting up tomorrow night's rubber match at Scope.
Norfolk (22-26-3-5) claimed a 1-0 lead with a power play goal 4:35 into the game. Jay Rosehill deflected Grant Potulny's shot from the top of the right circle past Binghamton netminder Jeff Glass for his fourth goal of the season.
The Admirals' lead doubled under ten minutes later with another power play tally. Brandon Bochenski entered the attacking zone along the right wing and sent a pass between the legs of a Senators defender to Justin Keller in the slot. Keller's wrister found its way between the glove and left leg pad of Glass and into the cage at 12:49.
Binghamton (29-19-5-3) closed to within a goal of the Admirals with a five-on-three power play tally by Denis Hamel at 1:39. Peter Regin sent a shot from the right circle that Helenius blocked. However, Hamel found the rebound and sent it past Admirals goaltender Riku Helenius on his second attempt.
Brandon Segal's twentieth goal of the season at 15:44 restored Norfolk's two-goal lead. Segal was sent on a breakaway and sent a forehand shot five-hole on Glass. The tally gave Segal a five-game goal-scoring streak.
The Bochenski-Keller connection struck again at 7:36 of the final frame. Bochenski stole the puck from a Binghamton defender in the right corner and centered the puck to Keller in the slot for a one-timer goal.
Segal put the home team up 5-1 at 16:06. Radek Smolenak sent a shot from the high slot that ended up behind the net. Segal found the rebound and sent a shot from behind the goal line that caromed off a defender and into the net.
Tomas Kudelka closed out scoring with a Binghamton power play goal with only 0.2 seconds remaining in the game.
Riku Helenius (36 shots, 34 saves) earned his third victory of the season. Jeff Glass (49 shots, 44 saves) took the loss.
Norfolk was 2-4 on the power play. Binghamton was 2-5.
