Fisher Cats Reach All-Star Break in First Place

(Manchester, NH)---Mark Sobolewski and Craig Stansberry homered on Monday afternoon, but the Fisher Cats fell to Portland 9-5 before a crowd of 6,938 at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.

RHP Casey Janssen worked a scoreless inning in relief as he continued his Major League rehab assignment with the Fisher Cats. In two innings on Saturday and Monday, the 29-year old worked a total of two innings without allowing a hit or run.

New Hampshire (51-37) opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning. Callix Crabbe doubled and scored on a single by Mike McDade for a 1-0 lead.

Portland (35-54) took the lead in the top of the second inning. Oscar Tejeda singled and Mitch Dening walked. Heiker Meneses singled to tie the game 1-1 and Jeremy Hazelbake homered to give the Sea Dogs a 4-1 lead.

Portland pulled away in the top of the sixth inning. Reynaldo Rodriguez led off with a solo home run, Mitch Dening added an RBI single and Hazelbaker (2-for-5, 2 HR, 6 RBI) hit his second three-run homer of the day for a 9-1 lead.

Sea Dogs starter Felix Doubront (1-0) allowed one run on four hits in five innings, striking out nine to earn the win.

In the last of the seventh inning, Travis d'Arnaud walked and Sobolewski homered. Craig Stansberry followed with a home run giving the Fisher Cats back-to-back home runs for the first time this season.

New Hampshire added a run in the bottom of the ninth inning. Mark Sobolewski doubled and scored on an infield single by Craig Stansberry that was misplayed by Portland. The Fisher Cats loaded the bases on a pair of walks, but McDade struck out to end the game with Kyle Fernandes picking up his second save.

Joel Carreno (7-6) took the loss for the Fisher Cats. With Trenton's ninth consecutive loss on Monday, the Fisher Cats reach the All-Star break four games up on the Thunder in the Eastern League's Eastern Division.
