Bowie Baysox second baseman Greg Miclat has been named the Eastern League Player of the Week for the period of July 4th-July 10th. The Chesapeake, Virginia native had an amazing batting average of .652 (15-for-23) to go along with one double, one home run, 11 runs scored, four RBI, five walks, six stolen bases and a .826 slugging percentage in seven games last week. Miclat had multiple hits in each of the six games he started during the week and scored at least two runs in four of those games, including going 4-for-4 with a double, three runs scored and one RBI in a 6-1 win at Altoona on Friday night. The 23-year old led all Eastern League players in batting average (.652), hits (15), stolen bases (6) and on-base percentage (.690) last week. He also tied for first in runs scored (11), ranked third in slugging percentage (.826) and OPS (1.516), tied for seventh in total bases (19) and tied for eighth in walks (5). Greg, who is batting .279 and ranks second in the league with 30 stolen bases in 77 games for the Baysox this season, was selected by the Baltimore Orioles in the fifth round of the 2008 draft after hitting .320 with 11 doubles, 52 runs scored, 35 RBI and 30 stolen bases in 62 games during his junior season at the University of Virginia.

Eric Surkamp, a left-handed starting pitcher for the Richmond Flying Squirrels, is the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the period of July 4th-July 10th. The 23-year old made two appearances for the Flying Squirrels last week and had a record of 1-0 with a 2.13 ERA in 12.2 innings pitched. Surkamp, who is a native of Cincinnati, Ohio, made his first appearance of the week on Tuesday night in the completion of a game against Trenton that was suspended in the second inning on Monday and allowed just two hits and three walks in 5.2 shutout innings to earn a win. He finished with 11 strikeouts, a new Richmond franchise record. That record did not hold up for long as the 6'4", 190 lb. southpaw struck out 12 batters in his second appearance of the week on Sunday against Harrisburg. He surrendered three runs on three hits, two walks and a hit batter over seven innings while getting a no-decision. Eric, who was also the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the period of May 2nd-8th and is a member of the Western Division roster for the Northeast Delta Dental Eastern League All-Star Game, was selected by the San Francisco Giants in the sixth round of the 2008 draft after going 5-2 with 89 strikeouts and a 4.39 ERA during his junior season at North Carolina State University.
