Senators Use Long Ball to Gain Split with Richmond

On a sweltering Monday afternoon in Richmond, the Senators used the long ball to beat Richmond 6-3. The Senators head into the all-star break with a 53-36 record, the best record in the Eastern League, and they have a 5.5 game lead over second place Richmond.

Tim Pahuta hit a three-run home run in the fourth to give the Sens a 4-1 lead. Tyler Moore hit a two-run home run in the sixth extending the Sens lead to 6-1. Moore also drove in a run in the first inning with a single.

Shairon Martis started for the Sens and pitched six effective innings, striking out ten and allowing three runs, two earned, in moving to 7-3 on the season. Hassan Pena and Cory VanAllen both pitched scoreless innings in relief before Pat Lehman came on in the ninth to earn his fourth save with the Sens. The Senators pitching staff combined to strike out 14 Flying Squirrels.
